NEWS WAVE - Welcome to the...Monarchy!

Monarchy are Andrew Armstrong and Ra Black. They formed Monarchy in September 2009. Their debut performance was at Cape Canaveral in Florida, and was transmitted into space, making them the first band to be broadcast live into space. Since then they have gone on to perform at Coachella, Love Box, The Big Chill, Melt Festival, Folsom St Fair festivals, as well as all around the world: San Fran, LA, NYC, London, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, the list goes on. They have also remixed the likes of Kylie, Jamiroquai, Kelis, Lady Gaga, Fyfe Dangerfield, OMD, Ellie Goulding and many more.
In February, 2013, they release their new single featuring burlesque star Dita Von Teese, who tracked them down via twitter, and invited them to spend Christmas in Paris with her. The video is shot by Roy Raz. Album number two is close behind.

Formatisi giovanissimi nel 2002, la band assunse il suo nome solo molto più tardi, quando Matthew Healy, cantante e chitarrista della band, entrò in possesso di un libro di Poesie Beat, appartenuto ad un artista di Ibiza che si stava liberando delle sue vecchie proprietà: sul retro del libro, era riportata una data, "1 June. The 1975". Era una nota di addio, un avviso di suicidio, appartenuta ad un precedente proprietario del libro. La cosa lasciò un segno profondo nell'animo del giovane cantante, che battezzò la neonata band in questo modo.

Il nome The 1975 fece la sua prima comparsa per il pubblico all'inizio del 2012, quando la Dirty Hit, pubblicò il primo EP, "Facedown". "The City", prima traccia di questo EP raggiunse rapidamente Radio BBC1 e la band divenne in breve la più brillante nuova promessa dell'indie rock inglese, con il battesimo finale ad opera di Zane Lowe che lancia il loro nuovo singolo "Sex".

La band a questo punto firma per Universal in Europa e Vagrant Records negli Stati Uniti, e si mette a lavorare col produttore di Arctic Monkeys e Foals, Mike Crossey.

Il 2013 si appresta ad essere decisamente il loro anno, con un album che arriverà a Settembre 2013!

NEWS WAVE - Echo about Ian McCulloch: he wrote Tribute Song over David Bowie Death Rumour

The British rocker Ian McCulloch (Echo & The Bunnymen) wrote a track called "Me and David Bowie" around 18 months ago when he heard a story suggesting the Heroes hitmaker was seriously ill, and MCCulloch couldn't believe it when the reclusive star shocked the world by releasing new music earlier this year (13).
He says, "I came up with that song around a year and a half ago when there were all these rumours flying around that he was on his last legs... We don't hear anything from Bowie for years, then I write that song and all of a sudden there's a new album and an exhibition at the V&A (London's Victoria & Albert museum). F**king skinny b**tard!".
Bowie made a surprise comeback in January (13) when he released his first new music in a decade, a single called Where Are We Now, which was followed by an album, A New Day, in March (13).

LIVE AND KICKING - Hurts più concreti ma meno espressionisti

Concerto ieri sera ai Magazzini Generali degli Hurts. Live meno estroso rispetto a quello dell'anno scorso all'Alcatraz, anche per via della location inadatta (la mancanza delle ballerine ha inoltre reso il tutto più canonico rispetto all'espressionismo affascinante del penultimo live). Theo sempre in forma, ma risente di una certa freddezza non percepita l'anno scorso, che si scioglie solo verso la fine (dalla seconda parte dello show, dalla versione accellerata di "Blood Tears and Gold" in poi). "Unspoken" vanta la miglior resa live. Voto: 7 (Voto anno scorso: 9)

(ANSA) - ROMA, 25 MAR - Esce in tutto il mondo il 26 marzo Delta Machine (Columbia Records), tredicesimo album dei Depeche Mode. Oltre che in versione standard, e' disponibile anche in edizione deluxe, un doppio cd con 4 brani aggiuntivi e un libro con scatti firmati dall'artista Anton Corbijn. Il gruppo partira' poi per un tour europeo, anticipato da una data all'Hayarkon Park di Tel Aviv il 7 maggio: si esibira' allo Stadio San Siro di Milano il 18 luglio e allo Stadio Olimpico di Roma il 20 luglio, allo Stade De France di Parigi e al Locomotive Stadium di Mosca, prima di concludere la tournee a Minsk, in Bielorussia, il 29 luglio. Dice Martin Gore: ''Scrivere quest'album e' stata una bella sfida, perche' volevo che i brani avessero un sound molto moderno. Voglio che la gente si senta bene quando lo ascolta, che provi un senso di pace. Questo disco ha qualcosa di magico''.  Aggiunge Dave Gahan: ''Con questo album abbiamo cambiato il nostro approccio alla scrittura. Non amiamo il suono troppo 'normale', ci piace 'sporcare' un po' i brani, vogliamo che abbiano la nostra impronta, il Depeche Mode Sound. Delta Machine non fa eccezione e non vedo l'ora di farlo sentire ai nostri fan''.

TALK TALK - Gli Hurts: "C'ispiriamo a Roby Baggio...!"

MILANO - Guardi una foto degli Hurts e quel bianco e nero e l'aria distaccata ti fanno venire in mente i film esistenzialisti francesi. Oppure una pubblicità per la moda: linee pulite, tagli perfetti. L'immagine è importante per il duo di Manchester. Theo Hutchcraft e Adam Anderson sfatano la regola che nella musica vuole gli artisti disinteressati alla moda o troppo interessati. «La moda rappresenta gran parte della nostra identità come band - dice Adam, tastierista e chitarrista -. Ci serve per esprimere noi stessi individualmente e come duo creativo. Va di pari passo con la musica. Non c'è l'una senza l'altra». Rilancia il cantante: «Lo stile rafforza ancora di più la nostra musica perché mostra un altro lato della nostra personalità. Tutti hanno uno stile, a prescindere che lo sappiano o meno. Disinteressarsi del proprio aspetto è importante tanto quanto interessarsene. Chi dice "voglio focalizzarmi solo sulla musica e non su quello che indosso" in modo indiretto sta pensando a ciò che indossa».
FELLINI - Allora, modelli o attori? «Preferirei che qualcuno pensasse che sembriamo usciti da un film di Fellini: anche se lui era molto colorato, 8½ è in bianco e nero», spiega Hutchcraft. I due hanno pubblicato questa settimana il loro secondo album, «Exile», che porteranno in concerto il 25 marzo a Milano. «Essere sempre in giro ti fa sentire in esilio e poi noi ci sentiamo di vivere in un mondo che non è reale - sottolinea il cantante -. E la cosa bella di questo titolo è anche che la parola esilio racchiude in sé molte sentimenti come libertà, paura, isolamento... sensazioni molto vivide, sulle quali vale la pena scrivere delle canzoni. Siamo stati in giro molto e ci siamo lasciati la nostra vita alle spalle». La vita di prima, prima ancora del disco di debutto «Happiness» che ha venduto due milioni di copie, era quella di due ragazzi di Manchester che le provano tutte pur di sfondare con la musica. Sussidio di disoccupazione e vestiti ricercati per non sentirsi tagliati fuori. All'ennesimo progetto fallito, Theo e Adam si guardano in faccia, prendono un volo per Verona, si fermano per qualche giorno in Italia e al ritorno decidono di provarci in due. «Quella è stata un'esperienza catalizzatrice, è stato l'inizio degli Hurts come li conosciamo oggi», ricorda Hutchcraft.
BAGGIO - L'Italia non è stata solo quella vacanza. «Da voi c'è un vastissimo panoram di musica elettronica. A metà anni 90 i produttori e i musicisti italiani di musica elettronica dominavano le classifiche in Inghilterra. Mi ricordo i Savage, i Livin' Joy, Corona... ho una lista lunghissima». E se, prendendo spunto dal titolo di una delle nove canzoni («Somebody to Die For»), chiedi a loro per chi sarebbero disposti a dare la vita, divertiti rispondono: «Roberto Baggio - scherza Adam -. Era il mio eroe quand'ero piccolo. Soprattutto per la pettinatura. E poi perché ha sbagliato il rigore per la nazionale italiana ai Mondiali del '94». A proposito di capelli, il loro taglio è uno degli argomenti più discussi quando si parla degli Hurts. Il riferimento è agli anni 80, anzi alle citazioni degli anni 40 che si facevano allora. «A me sembra di avere la pettinatura più normale della storia, molto semplice, si mette e si toglie, tipo casco», scherza Theo. Fra i dischi della loro vita citano Sinead O' Connor e Nine Inch Nails, ma i sintetizzatori e l'elettronica degli Eighties tornano prepotentemente nella loro musica. «Amiamo molto band come Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode e Japan, ma la loro influenza si sente soprattutto nel primo disco. Quella è stata un'epoca di grande integrità e originalità nel mondo della musica, perché ci sono stati enormi sviluppi tecnologici. Si sente che c'era il desiderio di fare musica pop, purché fosse musica pop unica».

(ANSA) - ROMA, 12 MAR - Un desiderio che si e' trasformato in realta' quello degli Hurts, duo di musica elettronica di Manchester. Theo Hutchcraft e Adam Anderson da sognatori in fila per il sussidio di disoccupazione, si sono trasformati in autentiche popstar: Exile e' il loro secondo album, da oggi nei negozi. L'album d'esordio Happiness li ha fatti diventare la band emergente che piu' velocemente ha venduto nel Regno Unito nel 2010. E il 25 marzo saranno a Milano (Magazzini Generali) per presentare il nuovo cd.    Exile verra' pubblicato in due versioni: la standard con 12 brani e la deluxe che conterra' 14 tracce e un dvd con spezzoni di concerti, interviste al gruppo, backstage e incontri con i loro fan in giro per l'Europa. Il primo singolo tratto da Exile e' Miracle, caratterizzata da un riff che mantiene la potenza melodica che ci si aspetta da un brano degli Hurts. L'album contiene anche sound molto diversi: Sandman dall'atmosfera chiaramente R'n'b, che Theo descrive come ''il tentativo di provare a fare un pezzo in stile Hudson Mohawke, ma in chiave pop'', Cupid o The Crow, uno dei suoi brani preferiti. Dice Adam: ''Non abbiamo mai composto una canzone con questa naturalezza, e penso si senta. Da quando gli Hurts sono nati, qualche anno fa, abbiamo sempre cercato di scrivere brani che avessero un forte impatto. The Crow e' una canzone piena di armonia''. ''L'unica cosa che volevamo fare, fin da quando abbiamo iniziato, era osare. Siamo stati coraggiosi'', conclude Theo.

Depeche Mode have announced a new album and a new tour, both happening next year.
We've been given a preview of the as-yet-untitled album, with the band playing a new cut at a press conference in Paris today. Have a listen to the track, also untitled (though Slicing Up Eyeballs suggest it may be called 'Angel Of Love'), below:
The site also reports that the band's Martin Gore told the conference: “It’s got a bit of a feel of Violator on some of the songs and a feel of Songs of Faith and Devotion on other songs. It’s a bit of a hybrid of those two for me.”
He added: “I am very happy with the new album and I think there are at least three or four songs that are up there with the very best that we’ve done."
While the tour will be a massive, 34-date affair, they are only playing one date in the UK, at the O2 Arena in London on May 28. Head here for tickets.

(ANSA) - MILANO, 23 OTT - A piu' di un anno dagli ultimi concerti insieme e a quattro anni dall'ultima tournee che li porto' a esibirsi in Italia, i Depeche Mode intraprenderanno un tour mondiale: e' stato annunciato oggi durante una conferenza stampa a Parigi, trasmessa in streaming dal sito della band britannica. Il tour avra' inizio il 7 maggio a Tel Aviv e attraversera' l'Europa per arrivare a Milano (stadio San Siro) il 18 luglio e a Roma (stadio Olimpico) il 20. Intanto i Depeche Mode stanno lavorando al tredicesimo album in studio (ancora senza titolo), che sara' pubblicato nei primi mesi del 2013.

Chacha (aka Public Relation) is our resident dj. Well known in Brussels, he performed in the most famous Belgian clubs during the 80′s: the legendary Theatro, the Fifty-Five or the Vizio. New wave and 80′s music have no secret for him. He will make you dance !

Richard23 is the famous frontman of Front 242. For many years, he’s djing with Coder23 but this time he will play a special pure new wave set. Here are his explanations. « New Wave started in 78, right after the Punk rage, and back then the genre would cover and include a lot of different sounds and directions. To me New Wave is more than just « A Forest », « Love Like Blood » or « Don’t you Forget About Me ». So I’ll play some of the forgotten New Wave tracks that most of us know but never really ear anymore in New Wave parties nowodays ».

Since 1996, Tzii, DJ & music composer, spreads his magickal frequencies all over the world through touring from Eastern and Western Europe to Australia, passing by USA, Canada, Japan and Africa, where he played hundreds of shows… He created his own label NIGHT ON EARTH in 2001, releasing vinyls and tapes, and is a co-founder & active member of the label/collective V-ATAK. NEWS WAVE - The Smiths back together in 2013?

When it comes to The Smiths and their potential reunion, it's always seems to be just that, rumors. However multiple sources are now confirming that the popular 80's new wave band featuring frontman Morrissey  and former Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr, might in fact be getting back together in 2013, with one date at Glastonbury.

Holy Moly was the first to report on the potential reunion. With Digital Spy posting their own report moments later, and other sources now confirming the the reunion.
However, sources are not able to confirm if it will be all four members of The Smiths, or just three. In case most don't remember, drummer Mike Joyce sued frontman Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr for a sum of $1 Million in 2007, and there still seems to be bad blood between both parties.
